The charts sometimes don’t move, even though you are connected to the GAIN datafeed.
First, make sure that you really are connected to the GAIN datafeed.
If you don’t know how to connect to the GAIN datafeed, you can watch a video that shows you how to setup the GAIN datafeed and connect to it.
When you ARE connected, and you still don’t see the charts moving, it is caused by a NinjaTrader. We can "thump it" and get your charts moving again. (You may see your charts not moving after using Market Replay, or if you are connecting around midnight your time).
We are going to tell NinjaTrader it is "tomorrow" so that it has to go figure out the real time. Here’s how…
Connect to the GAIN datafeed
First we need to make sure you are connected to the GAIN datafeed.
Select a Chart where the lines are not moving…
Right Click on the chart, and select "Format Data Series…"
Set the Start Date to "Tomorrow"
Set the "START Date" to a date LATER than the TODAY.
Make sure that the "Last Date" is LATER than what you enter for "Start Date".
In other words, if today is May 17, 2010, then set the "Start Date" to May 18 (5/18/2010 in the image above) and set the "Last Date" to May 19.
Click "OK". This may run for a few minutes while the data is collected from GAIN datafeed server.
The chart may remain "mostly blank" after doing this. We’re going to fix that now…
Return to Regular Setting
Again, Right-Click on your chart and again select "Format Data Series". Click on "Days Back", and set it back to the default of 3 Days.
NOTE: You do not normally need more than 3 days of data. The larger you make this value, the more memory will be used by NinjaTrader, thus slowing your computer performance. We don’t want that.
Normally, this will get things "moving again" on your charts. But, if it doesn’t… go back to the previous step and enter TODAY’s date in your "Start Date" and TOMORROW’s date in the "Last Date".
Reload Historical Data
Just to be "on the safe side", go ahead and Reload Historical Data. This may take a few minutes to complete.
Your Chart will begin "painting" again.
You will need to do this on every chart of a different Currency Pair. In other words, if you have both EUR/USD and EUR/JPY charts open, you will need to do this process on the EUR/USD chart, and then also on the EUR/JPY chart.
If you have multiple charts of the same currency pair open, like 3 EUR/USD charts (why would you do that?), the usually the steps you took will "kickstart" all of them, but if they don’t, you may find it easier just to close that chart and reopen a new or, or you can go through the same steps outlined here on each chart.
In some cases, you may need to restart NinjaTrader for this to work completely.
