Some broker data feeds, and certain installations of NinjaTrader, use a setting in NinjaTrader that does not work well with Logical Forex.
Even though your broker datafeed may give you "extended pip information", we need to make the charts display in full pips, and not "pipettes", nor "half-pips", nor "tenth-pips".
For example, your broker datafeed may provide a quote on a EUR/USD such as 1.40235, but we need the NinjaTrader chart to only look at the first 4 digits of the quote. In other words, we want NinjaTrader, when it is drawing the charts, to ignore that extra "5" in that example quote above.
You need to ALWAYS check this setting with any new installation of NinjaTrader or any change to a broker datafeed. Usually NinjaTrader will "remember" your previous setting, but I still recommend that you check it on any new or "updated" installation of NinjaTrader, and also with any change to your datafeed provider.
So… here is an example of what you see when NinjaTrader is not configured properly…
Incorrect NinjaTrader "Pip" Setting
When you have NinjTrader to something other than "Pip", your charts will show two main things…
1. There will be an extra "5" or other digits after the quote. Normally, quotes for a USD related currency pair, like EUR/USD, will have 4 digits after the decimal point, and no more. If you see more than 4 digits, then you need to correct the NinjaTrader settings. For pairs such as EUR/JPY, you need to see only 2 digits after the decimal point. If you see more than 2 digts for these kinds of currency pairs, then you need to correct the NinjaTrader settings.
2. The normal Grid-Line spacing for price is 5-pips. If you see anything else, then you need to correct the NinjaTrader settings.
Let’s correct the NinjaTrader settings…
Select Options from the NinjaTrader Control Center Menu
Select the "Options" menu item from the NinjaTrader Control Center.
Select the "Data" Tab and Set "Pip"
Click on the "Data" tab, and set the "Quote currencies (FX) in:" to "Pip". Click the "Okay" Button.
Now, return to viewing your chart. You may need to press the F5 key to refresh the chart display. Do this if you still see the "extra digits" or the Grid-Lines are are showing something other than 5-pips of separation between each grid line.
Your chart will now be displaying properly.
Notice how the "extra digits" in the price values are now 4 digits for the EUR/USD (and they will be 2 digits for EUR/JPY type pairs). And, also notice that the Horizontal Grid lines for price are 5-pips apart. Perfect!
One more thing… make sure that you always use 1-Range on your charts, otherwise, the charts will also not "look right".
