We have setup the charts to update with EVERY tick. On certain computers, especially older computers, there may not be enough computer processing power to update the charts in "realtime" mode.
Ideally, of course, you will run your charting platform on one computer, and your broker dealing/trading platform on a different computer. This is not a requirement, but it sure helps make everything, well, run better.
The quickest way to work around this "slow computer issue" is to slow down the NinjaTrader chart updates.
Setting the Chart Update Interval
You can change the Chart Properties by Right-Click on any chart, then select "Properties" at the very bottom of the menu choices. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl-T while on any active chart. You’ll see the Chart Properties box. Scroll to near the bottom and set you Display Interval to a value that prevents your comptuer from running slowly. If the current setting makes your computer run too slow, a good alternative value is between 200 and 500.
You will need to do this on every chart that is currently open, and you’ll need to do this EVERY time you open a New Chart. If you want to avoid having to do that, you can create a new template (DO NOT OVERWRITE THE DELIVERED TEMPLATES!).
Note that the more charts (and other programs) you have running on your computer at the same time, the slower your computer will run. Antivirus software, email checking, etc., will also degrade your computer performance. We recommend that you dedicate your trading comptuer to exactly that…trading, and do not install or run ANY other unecessary software…even virus checking software. (You can protect yourself other ways that may not slow down your computer as much.)
